Birkhill castle is located in north east fife on the banks of the Tay estuary. The estate is in the region of 2000 acres with a mixture of arable and 700 acres of woodland. Due to the topography of the ground we have some very challenging pheasant drives testing the best of most peoples ability. We have 15-20 drives which are a provide a mixture of open fields to snap shooting in woodland and even 4 fantastic drives where you stand on the waters edge of the river Tay providing excellent sport and fantastic scenery.
We are now leasing our neighbouring estate to provide us with more variety and the option of back to back quality driven days.
A typical day would start by meeting at Birkhill castle where you would be greeted by the shoot owner and after a safety briefing we would begin the first of 5 drives of the day. After the 3rd drive lunch can either be had in the castle or at our home farm lunch room depending on your requirements. Or alternatively a quick lunch can be had between drives.
Accommodation can provided to meet your individual requirements either in Birkhill castle or at one of the many hotels.

Excellent day here in a lovely setting with varied and interesting drives. George was professional and good fun with lots of banter with a friendly unpretentious team of guns. Very wet and muddy getting to some of the drives as not a lot of tracks down so a decent 4x4 required.

We had a fantastic day here on 2nd November. The weather was unseasonably mild and with the lack of wind the birds were not keen to fly over the guns. Despite this George and his team provided a fantastic day’s shooting which was very much enjoyed by all. The topography of the estate is fantastic providing some testing birds. The team thoroughly enjoyed their day and look forward to returning soon. This is a shoot you have to visit.

A gift from my wife on my birthday, I spent a day deer stalking with George this past December who she found through gunsonpegs. Having been out with guides before many times, I found George not only an excellent country guide, but also a very professional, experienced outdoorsmen from whom I learned a lot. It was a great day out, George having provided a very relaxed atmosphere. There was also quite a bit of excitement during the day as well, with plenty of venison to show for it at the end of the day. A genuine Scotland experience, in my opinion, and George is very good company too. Hunting with him will now be a regular part of my autumn and winter.

I booked a 175 bird day through Guns on Pegs, and found George Elliot a delight to deal with both when booking the day and on the day itself. The atmosphere was informal, but there was plenty of professionalism behind the scenes, presenting plentiful birds at ranges to challenge all skill levels. The signature drive, standing literally on the shore of the Firth of Tay with a beautiful view of the Angus coast, was hugely fun. I fully intend to return and would recommend Birkhill to any gun looking for good sport and good company without any attention paid to whether one's wellies are the right brand!
