**DUNALASTAIR ESTATE - driven Pheasant & Partridge Shoot in Highland Perthshire - Friendly, Exciting, Unforgettable

20 miles west of Pitlochry (approx. 30 minute by car)
45 miles north-west from Perth (approx. 1 hour)
90 miles from Edinburgh (approx 2 hours)
**

Rough and mini-driven days, November to January - a mixture of medium and highly challenging drives as birds come off lofty banks over the guns.

Stunning highland setting, overlooked by Schiehallion and its surrounding hills, interspersed with a variety of plantations and native woods, fields, heather and bracken to provide assorted cover for game birds.

Our values

The shoot started as a family shoot to provide some enjoyment and retain local employment through winter months.  We value a friendly and relaxed atmostphere on a shoot day and - leaving aside the two most memorable drives - our returning clients tell us that the hospitality and intimacy plays a large part in their decision to come back.  It is important to us to have an enthusiastic team of beaters and pickers up, who know the ground well and whose good humour contributes to the atmosphere of the day.

Further information

Dunalastair Estate has nine holiday cottages - see dunalastair .com for details.

Hotels/ B&Bs - we are happy to advise on short-term accommodation to fit in with your travel plans and there are a number of places to stay in the local area.

Hospitality

Our days are informal and we're happy to discuss options for elevenses and lunch if guns do not wish to bring their own.

Topography

Topography

The drives are situated between the River Tummel, Dunalastair Reservoir and the hill of Ben a' Chuallaich.  A mixture of farming, small-scale forestry and deer management has created a mosaic which combines ease of access into drives with the rough and wooded terrain that provides good cover for birds.  The birds hold well on this sunny side of the glen.

About the hosts

Dunalastair was originally the seat of Clan Donnachaidh, where the poet chief of that clan, Alexander Robertson of Struan, lived between his involvement in both Jacobite uprisings during the 18th century.  The Estate has since changed hands several times and has been owned by the de Sales La Terriere family now for over a century following the purchase by James Clark Bunten, an industrialist from Glasgow.

The shoot started as an experimental syndicated shoot in 2001/2002 and it worked so well that we decided to let out days.

Reviews

Mr. Frank Stephenson

For many years, my friends I have traveled to Dunalastair for between 3-5 days walked-up and mini-driven shooting and it never disappoints. The estate is absolutely beautiful; set around Dunalastair water, surrounded by mountains and overlooked by the local Munro: Schiehallion. Most of the sport that we have enjoyed has been walked-up shooting, however from time to time we have also taken part in some driven; which offers fantastically challenging birds from the partridge banks to the high pheasant, garden drive. I would recommend Dunalastair to anyone who is looking for a 100-120 bird mixed day, set in amazing terrain, with very sporting birds! Best Regards, Frank Director of Sales, GunsOnPegs
