Halston Sporting Ltd arranges and hosts simulated days on a family run shoot that aims to provide a day's sport in a relaxed and informal setting in the heart of rural Shropshire. The shooting is set around the main house and surrounding parkland to the north of Shrewsbury and just over an hour from both Manchester and Birmingham. The shoot has been running for many decades and has established a reputation for good sport with little of the formality found in some of the larger shoots.
Simulated game is clay pigeon shooting set up to be as similar to real game shooting as possible. Guns will have a number of drives where multiple traps fire approximately a 1000 clays per drive at various speeds and angles. This makes for an exciting and challenging day’s shooting as well as an enjoyable and social day out, with drinks and snacks served in between drives and a meal taken during the day.
The day is ideal for game shooting syndicates to keep their eye in out of season, birthday celebrations, stag do's and introducing the younger generation to shooting. Friends and family are also welcome to come along on the day as social guests and spectate.
We are flexible and can provide shooting both during the week and on Saturdays. The length of the day and the number of drives can be tailored to suit your needs. We usually cater for teams of between 10 and 20 guns.
Hospitality
Guns meet in the kitchen for coffee, breakfast and a warm welcome. Drinks and elevenses are provided prior to partaking of lunch which can be taken at midday or at the end of the day depending on the preference of the guns.
Clays
We are looking to provide a mixture of drives that are suitable for the skill set of the gun. The drives are set in woods ensuring snap shooting; behind hedgerows or set in open fields allowing for guns to shoot high pheasants or low flying grouse or partridge.
Topography
There are a number of drives which are both varied and challenging. The shoot makes use of the topography on the Estate providing drives for showing partridges bursting over hedgerows through to high pheasant and duck using hills and woods to great affect.
Gun hire & insurance
Guests are able to hire a range of shotguns that are suitable for their ability.
Cartridges and addons
There is no extra cost for hospitality as this is included. However if guests require the use of a shotgun or cartridges we do charge for this. Charges are available on request.
About the hosts
The host, Rupert Harvey, runs the day's shooting ensuring that the guns have an enjoyable day. Harriet Harvey is responsible for providing the elevenses as well as the wonderful lunch. Both Rupert, Harriet and their team which includes their children take great pride to make the day as relaxed and informal as possible.
Non-shooting guests
Non-shooting guests are very welcome to accompany guns on the day. Should Non-shooting guests wish to partake in refreshments during the day there will be a charge. All charges are available on request.
Travel information
If you are coming by train our nearest station is Gobowen. The best motorways are the M56 and M53 if coming from Manchester. If you are coming from Birmingham we would suggest the M6, M54 and A5. We are based just outside Whittington on the A495.
